Our Story
Highfield Farm is owned and operated by James & Samantha Mushitz and their girls, Aavah & Grace Hancock.
Samantha grew up working and training at a dressage and pleasure barn in the Saint Cloud area. Her training as a child and young adult laid the foundation for the barn and program.
After graduating from college and having kids, she decided it was time to get back into horses and went to try a gelding that was for sale locally. There, she met a new friend who introduced her to the rodeo world and the rest is history.
Our family enjoys the flexibility of rodeo, the fact that we can do it together, and the great community of people. Both of our girls developed a love for riding early on and have won at a local and national level, won countless buckles, and made a lifetime of memories. From making it all the way to the American Finals, to being a Junior World Final Finalist, to winning the Patriot one year, we have certainly been blessed with some amazing runs & horses.
The barn was erected in 2018 as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to have a nice barn with an indoor arena. At the time there was no intention of Highfield Farm developing into a thriving boarding community. Shortly after building the barn, requests to board started coming in, and of course we said "yes!" We soon learned we LOVED taking care of horses for others. Boarding your horses is an act of trust, and we understand it is often an unpleasant experience. It is and has always been our commitment for people to feel like they are making NO COMPROMISES by keeping their horses at our barn. We treat all of the horses here equally and love providing an exceptional level of care. Horses need to FEEL THEIR BEST to BE THEIR BEST and because of this we are always on the cutting edge of pursuing knowledge regarding the best horse care and horse keeping practices.
In addition to boarding, Samantha sells Real Estate as her primary career (lots of horse property!) and we actively compete, breed, and train barrel horses. While we don't sell often, we do occasionally offer horses for sale and take great pride in watching others go on to succeed with them. James manages the farm full time!
